Abstract: Autophagy is a highly conserved process of cellular lysosomal degradation of intracellular components. The effects of autophagy have been implicated in cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis, myocardial ischemia / reperfusion injury, hypertension and so on. Recent studies showed that simulated weightlessness stimulates autophagy in the ventricular muscle and femoral artery of rats. The effect of autophagy in weightlessness induced cardiovascular deconditioning should be further studied.
