Abstract: The quality of teaching staff has a significant effect on English teaching in institutions of higher vocational education. This paper investigated 90 English teachers from three different institutions of higher vocational education in Hubei province, analyzed the current situation of those teaching staff, and proposed several approaches to improving the development of English teaching staff. The proposals include the perfection of introduction mechanism of teachers, the construction of reasonable assessment system, and the provision of sound social security support.
