Abstract: Public optional courses are an important component of the curriculum system in colleges and universities. The aim of opening them is to expand the scope of students' knowledge, im-prove their comprehensive quality, promote their comprehensive development and cultivate interdisciplinary talents needed by the society. However, practical situations show that the effectiveness of public optional courses is less impressive and has not achieved the anticipated aim and effect. Through an interview on students and teachers in public optional courses, the writer summarizes some personal experience in giving public optional courses, and explores the causes of the unfavorable effectiveness of public op-tional courses and the countermeasures to improve it.
