Abstract: For the problems of spanning and fatigue of the submarine pipeline on large slope,the characteristics of the inline and cross-flow vortex induced vibration( VIV) are analyzed based on the DNV rules and linear fatigue cumulative damage theory. An example is given to make clear the maximum spanning length and fatigue life of the pipeline in different water depths.The results indicated that the spanning length had a great influence on the fatigue damage of VIV. The design parameters of the pipeline can meet the fatigue requirements and the position of maximum fatigue damage of the pipeline is the bottom of the slope between the pipeline touchdown point.
