Abstract: Long-term manned space flight and space exploration with long distance and several crews will be the trend of aerospace development course in the future. It will be need to establish bioregenerative life support system( BLSS) on Moon or Mars as a potential solution to guarantee a sustainable habitation for astronauts.Producing animal protein in this system could increase it’s closure ability and stability. The idea of rearing mulberry silkworm larvae to provide animal protein for crew in the BLSS required by long term missions to the Moon and Mars was widely accepted. In this paper,researches and developments on silkworms were introduced in detail through information analyses. The prospects in the future studies were also predicted. It has valued references for our country to carry out related investigations
