Abstract: Beam-current regulation of Kaufman-type ion thruster.The influence of the discharge conditions,including the discharge current,magnetic field intensity and propellant flow-rate,on the beam-current was empirically approximated,physically modeled based on the structure of Kaufman-type ion thruster,theoretically analyzed in low temperature plasma theories,and experimentally measured.The calculated results show that the discharge conditions have a major impact on the beam-current.To be specific,the beam-current increases linearly with an increase of the discharge current;at a given discharge current,the beam-current varies in a non-linear way with the magnetic field intensity,and the higher the discharge current,the larger the nonlinearity;the beam-current slowly and non-linearly changes with the propellant flowrate.The calculated and measured results were in fairly good agreement.We suggest that our preliminary results be of some technological interest in beam-current regulationof Kaufman-type ion thruster.
