Abstract: Sei Shongaon is a famous singer and writer in Heian Period of Japan. Her Pillow Book is the first Japanese informal essay.It described that her feelings about the Palace life and natural things,and aesthetic idea in the form of the essay,diary and so on,which lay a foundation of the development of the Japanese informal essay. This could be said to be groundbreaking work.
