Assessment of therapeutic efficacy of 308 nm excimer laser in combination with human placenta ex-tract in the treatment of vitiligo

Abstract: Objective:To assess the therapeutic efficacy of 308 nm excimer laser in combination with hu-man placenta extract in the treatment of vitiligo. Methods:Two hundred and twenty patients with vitiligo were divided into the treatment group and control group, 110 patients in each group. The patients in the treatment group ( 29 patients in positive stage and 81patients in stable stage, 95 patients of vulgaris type and 15 patients of segmental type) were treated with 308 nm excimer laser in combination with human placenta extract. The patients in the control group ( 29 patients in positive stage and 81patients in stable stage, 93 patients of vulgar-is type and 17 patients of segmental type) were treated with308 nm excimer laser alone. The efficacy was as-sessed after treatment for four weeks. Results:The significant effective rates in the treatment group and control group were 81.8% and 63.63%, with a significant difference ( P<0.05) . The significant efficiency in the pa-tients of vulgaris type, acrofacial vitiligo and stable stage was 85.26%, 70% and 86.42%, which was higher than those in the control group (66.67%, 27.7% and 69.14%). There was no significant difference in the effi-ciency in segmental type and positive stage between the two groups ( P>0.05) . Conclusion:308 nm excimer laser in combination with human placenta extract is more effective than 308 nm excimer laser alone in the treatment of vulgaris vitiligo, especially for stable and acrofacial vitiligo.
