Abstract: Metaphor is not only a linguistic phenomenon but an important cognitive means for human being,yet Its peculiar cross-domain mapping mechanism and systematic feature determines that it is also a discourse strategy. The paper dealt with the role of metaphor in discourse cohesion and coherence on the basis of related theories of cognitive linguistics and pragmatics as well as relevant corpus.
