Abstract: Among the numerous methods of treating water containing fluorine, defluorinating by adsorption is one of the most extensively applied methods, the research of defluorinating adsorbents has always been a significant problem. Domestic study on defluorinating adsorbents has undergone four stages: finding simple adsorbents, modifying the adsorbents, exploiting new high effective adsorbents, and using electrosorptive defluorination. Researches in each the stage were summarized, and proposition about ahead study on defluorinating adsorbents was raised. In ahead research, industrialization of preparation and application of the adsorbents should be taken as the final goal, principles of environmental protection and greening must be implemented, theoretical level of the research should be promoted, and synthetical effect of defluorination by using the adsorbents should be optimized.
