Study of control strategy for status switching of switched reluctance starter/generator

Abstract: Based on the analysis on the principle of the SRM ( Switched Reluctance Motor ) status swit-chover from starter to generator, a genetic algorithm sliding mode variable structure controller was de-signed to solve the problem about voltage buildup and adjustment during the process of switchover. The controller consists of multi-close-routines feedback controlling system such as the rotation speed of prime motor, load current, phase current and output voltage. Parameters optimization model based on genetic algorithm, in the controller, was designed to conclude and the turn-on angle, turn-off angle and chopping current was selected to ensure the switchover steady and rapid. SRM module based on finite element elec-tromagnetic analysis was built to design and to simulate the sliding mode variable structure controller. A 2kW SRM model machine was utilized to validate the design. The results shows that the controller, com-paed with traditional PID controlling strategy, can improve the dynamic feature of switchover process of SRD/G efficiently.
