Abstract: Subjective well‐being (SWB) is an important comprehensive psychological index for measuring the people’s life satisfaction . Combining measurement research with experimental research , this paper analyzes the interactive effects of social comparison and personality on subjective w ell‐being , esp . a possible cognitive mechanism through which the personality traits influence SWB . The results indicate that social comparison serves as the intermediary in which the traits of neuroticism influence subjective well‐being ,downward comparison would promote their well‐being ,and their well‐being would be reduced from a present upward comparison . For any instance , individuals with high neuroticism are more sensitivity to social comparison than those with low neuroticism , so subjective well‐being would be influenced evidently . As for traits extraversion , the main effect for extraversion and social comparison to happiness are obvious , but interaction effect is not significant , and it indicates that social comparison does not act as the intermediary in which the traits of extraversion influences SWB .
