Experimental Study of Seismic Performance of Large-Scale Model of Beam Bridge with Laminated Elastomeric Bearings

Abstract: To study the seismic mitigation performance of transverse restraint system of beam bridge with laminated elastomeric bearings ,the large‐scale model of the whole bridge structure of a continuous‐deck simply‐supported bridge with a continuous unit of two spans of (30+30) m was prepared ,on which shaking table test was conducted .The seismic reaction of the free sliding sys‐tem without restraints ,X‐shaped elasto‐plastic plate stopper restraint system and the reinforced concrete stopper restraint system was studied .The results of the study indicate that during the in‐put of seismic vibration ,the laminated elastomeric bearings ,X‐shaped elaso‐plastic plate stoppers and reinforced concrete stoppers all showed signs of damage or elasto‐plastic deformation ,and the seismic energy transferred to the system enhanced .As seismic strength was increasing ,the bear‐ings in the free sliding system without restraints began to slide and permanent residual displace‐ment was found in the beam .When the reinforced concrete stoppers were added ,the maximum relevant displacement of the pier and girder is the smallest .X‐shaped elasto‐plastic plate stoppers can considerably dissipate seismic energy in an earthquake ,effectively reducing the relevant dis‐placement between the pier and the girder and the seismic energy transferring from the beam to the substructure ,preventing occurrence of severe damage in the piers and the foundation ,and exhibi‐ting good seismic mitigation performance .
