Impact of delivery mode on early postpartum levator muscle contraction function

Abstract: Objective To explore the impact of delivery mode on early postpartum levator muscle contraction function.Methods Totally 54 primiparas were recruited,including elective caesarean section group(n=26)and vaginal delivery group(n=28).Primipara underwent ultrasonography in 6—8 weeks after childbirth.Horizontal angle,length,hiatal area,horizontal angle change amount,length change,hiatal area changes of levator ani muscle and the degree of the movement of the bladder neck at resting,shrinkage anal state were measured and compared between two groups.Results The parameters at resting had no statistical significance between two groups(all P>0.05),but those at shrinkage anal state had statistical significance between two groups(all P<0.05).There were statistical difference between two groups in horizontal angle change,length change,hiatal area change of levator ani muscle and the movement of the bladder neck.Conclusion To some extent,elective caesarean section can protect levator muscle contraction function.
