Abstract: It has been widely acknowledged that a great emphasis should be placed on the subjectivity of children in contemporary pic-turebooks along with the priority of pictures.With the development and diversity of creative practices in picturebooks,the research of picturebooks highly integrates the contemporary literary trends and theoretical critical discourses involving pedagogy,philosophical con-cepts and postmodernism for new aesthetical synergy of verbal and visual texts.For example,Anthony Browne combines animal person-ality,surrealism,parody and intertextuality in his Piggy Book,which exemplifies new cognitive,psychological,aesthetical comprehen-sion of picturebooks in terms of narrative patterns,visual literacy and educational significance.
