The optimization of inlet and outlet structure of segmental baffles heat exchanger

Abstract: This study,by using the software FLUENT,has simulated the segmental baffles heat exchanger in cylindric and horn -shaped inlet and outlet structures. A comparison between two structures’shell-pass pressure drop shows that the pressure drop of horn-shaped inlet and outlet structure is much lesser than that of cylindrical inlet and outlet structure and the pressure drop reduction be-tween the two structures was more obvious at the higher flow rate. Furthermore,an experimental study on the two structures has been carried out. A comparison between the numerical simulation result and experiment result shows that the two match well when the maxi-mum error between experimental results and numerical simulation results is about 8% . This can provide effective basis for the improve-ment of the inlet and outlet structure in the segmental baffles heat exchanger.
