Abstract: The loyalty that had been proposed by the functionalist translation theory mainly contains two aspects:namely the loyalty to the writer and to the reader. It can be considered as an absolute principle for all translators, both in accordance with the style of the o-riginal work and supports the theory of proper revise. However, as a translator, we may lose ourselves in the course of continuously translating, learning the experience that good works brought us, absorbing the merits of others as well as improving our own way of translating. It seems that we slavishly imitate others and lose own originality, actually we have learned nothing and have no progress in translating skills, what’ s more, good works are still far from us.So the third loyalty should be take into consideration, namely to our own idea.
