Abstract: In order to decrease the cost and improve the structure performance of the wind turbine tower,the particle swarm optimization algorithm program is compiled and the finite element method is embedded in the program.A mathematical model of the tower optimization design is established by using the optimization algorithm.The tower wall thickness as well as bottom diameter and top diameter are employed as the design variables,while the strength,rigidity,vibration and stability are taken into account as the constraints.The purpose of this model is to reduce the tower mass.The optimization model is applied to a 1.5 MW wind turbine tower.The results show that the structure performance of the tower is improved while the tower mass is reduced by 16.3%,which illustrates the validity of the calculation model and contributes to the design of similar tower.
