Abstract: Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of the combination of traditional Chinese and western medicine in treating supra-condylar and intercondylar fractures of humerus and its influences of serum levels of insulin like growth factor-Ⅰ(IGF-Ⅰ)and bone-morphogenetic protein-2(BMP-2). Methods:88 patients of supracondylar and intercondylar fractures of humerus of the syndrome of Qi stagnation and blood stasis were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group, each of 44 cases. The control group were given olecranon osteotomy surgery. The treatment group received Shentong Zhuyu Tang(1 dose a day and bid). Courses of treat-ment for both groups was 4 weeks. TCM symptom scores and elbow function scores in two groups were compared. The clinical efficacy was analyzed between two groups. The serum levels of IGF-Ⅰ and BMP-2 were detected in two groups. Results:The TCM symptom scores were evidently lower in treatment group than control one after treatment(P ﹤ 0. 01). The total effective rate for treatment group was 97. 72% ,better than control group with 81. 81%(P ﹤ 0. 05). The fineness rate of elbow function scores in treatment group was 97. 73% ,better than control group with 86. 36%(χ2 = 4. 162,P ﹤ 0. 05). The serum levels of IGF-Ⅰ and BMP-2 in treatment group were obviously higher than control one with statistical significances after treatment group(P ﹤ 0. 01). Conclusion:Combination of tradi-tional Chinese and western medicine for the treatment of supracondylar and intercondylar fractures of humerus can evidently improve symptoms, elbow function and clinic effect. The increasing serum levels of IGF-Ⅰ and BMP-2 could be related to the effect above.
