Abstract: A circulation reliability evaluation method is presented for the wide area protect system(WAPS) in the paper. The whole WAPS modeled using a hierarchical structure, the reliability model based on fault tree analysis is established. And then the reliability of the PMUs local network and backbone network are discussed. Finally, take into account the reliability of phasor measurement units(PMUs) phasor data information flow and control command information flow. A case of WAPS is analyzed to summarize the effect factors of its quantitative evaluation. The result shows that the reliability of the WAPS depends not only on the reliability of its communication components, but also on the PDC parameter and control command transmission mechanism.
