Abstract: Hardwood is widely used as interior decoration materials, mainly because that its anatomical structure is in great complication and therefore it possesses good aesthetic decorative value. To further explore the aesthetic principles of wood, thefluctuation spectrum analysis was carried out on cross-section structure of six hardwood species with typical pore distribution patterns by means of Fourier image transformation technology. The results show that all thefluctuation spectra of cross-section structure of the six hardwood species were closely similar to 1/f fluctuation spectrum, especially in the frequency bands of 8~12Hz (corresponding to the human brain's α-band) almost completely consistent with 1/ffluctuation spectrum. This result further theoretically explains the reason why hardwood is more suitable as interior decoration materials lies in that its surface structurefluctuation is close similar to 1/ffluctuation. The wood surface structurefluctuation similar to 1/ffluctuation can stimulate the human body to produce A-rhythm brain waves, and let people feel comfortable and pleasant.
