Study of Benchmark Model for Vibration Control of Cable-Stayed Bridge Under Earthquake Excitation

Abstract: In order to establish a set of vibration control assessing system for long-span bridge structures under the excitation of earthquakes and compare the effects of different control measures,the Emerson Memorial Bridge is taken as the benchmark model for vibration control of cablestayed bridge,to study the efficiency of all the control calculation methods and devices for vibration control of cable-stayed bridge under earthquake excitation.Various conventional control calculation methods and intelligent calculation methods associated with the studies conducted by scholars from different countries in the past ten-odd years were systematically summarized.The implementation conditions of the passive control,positive control,semi-passive control and hybrid control were set forth,and proposals were given for the future study.The Emerson Memorial Bridge is cited as an example,a new type of EMD dampers were selected as the control devices to carry out the intelligent control based on fuzzy inference.The speed of the EMD dampers were input as the fuzzy control device,and the fuzzy rules were formulated,the output voltage of EMD dampers were rapidly and efficiently determined,so that the online real-time control of the bridge was realized.The results of the numerical simulation demonstrate that 18 control indexes are close to the sample control and especially have distinct effects on the control of shear force and overturning moment at the foundations and vibration damping control effect of the stay cables at the pylons.
