Control of Strain in Hogging Moment Zone of Steel-Concrete Composite Girder

Abstract: To examine the influence of welding stud connectors and perforbond rib connectors on the strain of the steel-concrete composite girder,the indoor model test was designed based on real bridge,taking the model samples respectively with welding stud connectors and perforbond rib connectors as the study objects.The strain conditions of the cross section of the composite girder of the two model samples under different loading conditions were analyzed by the data collected from strain gauges installed on the steel beam,concrete slabs,connectors and the longitudinal tensile reinforced bars.The results of the study show that the threshold load of the sample girder with perforbond rib connectors is greater than that of the sample beam with welding stud connectors,indicating that the steel-concrete composite beam with perforbond rib connectors is able to bear heavier loads.The dangerous cross section in both the sample beam with welding stud connectors and the one with perforbond rib connectors should be considered during the cracking control of the concrete slabs.In light of the testing model,perforbond rib connectors can effectively control the strain distribution and the spacing among cracks in different locations of the testing beam,and can improve the overall stiffness of the testing beams,which are able to exert more favorable effects on the hogging moment zone.
