Methods of Optimized Configuration Design for Cable-Stayed Bridge of Rigid Fixity System with Two Unequal-Height Pylons

Abstract: The cable-stayed bridge of rigid fixity system with two unequal-height pylons exhibits apparently asymmetrical structural configuration and load bearing behavior.To optimize the load bearing capacity of bridge of this type,the Shuitu Jialingjiang River Bridge in Chongqing,a cable-stayed bridge of rigid fixity system and with a main span of 388 mand two unequal-height pylons,was taken as the background to study the configuration design of cable-stayed bridge of its kind.The results of the study show that the arrangement of the high and low pylons and the flexibility of the lower pylon columns should be given top priority in selecting rigid fixity structure.The structural configuration can be optimized by increasing the length of the side span at the side of the low pylon,anchoring the stay cables with equal spacing and installing back stays at the side of the high pylon.The type of the girder was selected according to the main span length,which was subsequently determined the arrangement of auxiliary piers.It is suggested that the load bearing capacity of the structure be improved by using the combined concrete and steel-concrete composite girder or the combined concrete and steel main girder to the side spans at the side of the low pylon.
