Abstract: Nose is one of the masterpiece historical novels by Akutagawa Ryunosuke. He based this novel on history and with the old material he brought out some novelty and disclosed the selfishness in human nature. Influence by Akutagawa Ryunosuke, Lu Xun tried his pen on writing historical novels and The Flight to the Moon is a representative. This paper, with special reference to Nose and The Flight to the Moon, discusses the similarities and differences between the historical novels by Akutagawa Ryunosuke and those by Lu Xun from the perspectives of character depiction and philosophic ideas embodied and artistry.
