Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of acupuncture of Wei’s acupoints on knee osteoarthritis. Methods 60 cases of knee osteoarthritis were randomly allocated into 2 groups:the acupuncture group (30 cases)was treated by acupuncture and moxibus-tion,and the western medicine group (30 cases)by diclofenac sodium dual release enteric-coated capsules. The appraisal scores of the WOMAC index,VAS,and joint function were evaluated before the treatment and after several times of treatments(i.e.,5 times,10 times and 20 times). All data were statistically analyzed by package SPSS 11.5.Results 2 groups have significant difference in the appraisal scores of the WOMAC index,VAS,and joint function between before and after the treatments(P <0.01).The comparison be-tween the two groups suggests that after the treatments the acupuncture group had better therapy effect than the western medicine group in terms of the appraisal scores of the WOMAC index and VAS (P <0.05)but there is no difference in the appraisal scores of joint function(P >0.05).After the treatments,3 patients in the acupuncture group were clinically cured,16 in remarkable effects,8 in good effects, and 3 in ineffectiveness. While in the western medicinegroup, the corresponding data were 2,8,17,and 3,respectively.The acu-puncture group is superior to the western medicine group(P <0.05).Conclusions Acupuncture of Wei’s acupoints can effectively improve knee pain andankylosis, but can’t effectively improve joint’s motor function of patients with knee osteoarthritis.
