STUDY ON THE BLOCKED MUTANT JIM-121 OF MICROMONOSPORA ECHINOSPORA PRODUCING SISOMICIN

Abstract: The mutant JIM-121 was isolated after treating M. echinosPora strain JIM-202 with the complex effects of UV, LiC1 and methylamine. Antibiotic 121 complex was obtained from fermentation broth of JIM-121 with an ion-exchange procedure. By seperating and purifying with CM-sephadex C-25,antibiotic 121-A and 121-B were obtained as major components from antibiotic 121complex. Results of detection with TLC, IR, NMR and MS indicate that antibiotic 121-A is identical with Sisomicin. According to the biosynthestic pathway of Gentamicin and Sisomicin, we consider that the mutant strain,JIM-121,has the character of weak reducing ability at (4’, 5’)-position of purpurosamine.
