Abstract: Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) is an autoimmune disease modelin animals primarily caused by cell-mediated injury. With guinea pig spinal cord homogenate ia complete Freund adjuvant and Bordetella pertussis vaccine, we succeeded in the induction of EAE in Wistar rats, confirmed that pertussis vaccine augmented EAE response, and demonstrated that two administrations of antigen-CFA emulsion at one week interval suppressed EAE development. When treated with Poriatin (po) or cyclophosphamide (ip) the incidence of the disease was lowered, and when given simultaneously a synergic effect was observed on EAE suppression.
