Abstract: A strain B-7 of Streptomyces sp. was isolated from soil samples collected in Hainan,China. It was found to produce different components of streptoth-ricin antibiotics which are effective in preventing and controlling the Chinese cabbage diseases caused by Erowinia aroideas. The sporophores of the strain B-7 are spiral, 1-4 turns. The surface of spores are smooth. The aerial mycelium is white to reddish gray with lavender shade. The substrate mycelium is colorless to faint yellow. The chemical composition of cell wall belongs to type I. The strain is similar to Streptomyees lavendulae ISP 5069 (IMRU-3440), but shows somewhat different cultural characteristics and utilization of carbon sources. Therefore it has been named St-reptomyces lavendulae var. hainanensis n. var.
