PREPARATION AND ANALYSIS OF N-OXIDE RIFAMPiN REFERENCE

Abstract: Rifampin is a semisynthetic antibiotics. There are some by-products in the final products. N-oxide rifampin is one of them. There was no report about the structure of N-oxide rifampin. It is valuable to prepare it for purity test of rifampin. This report described the preparation, recrystallization and analysis by ’ means of TLC, NM.R, UV, IR, Mass spectrum and its structure was elucidated.The potency of N-oxide rifampin was compared with rifampin. Its biological activity was only about 1% of rifampin and toxicity was less than rifampin.
