Abstract: In the course of screening for new antifungal antibiotics from Streptomyces, an antifungal antibiotic, Fulongmycin was discovered in culture mycelium and broth of a Streptomyces B1829 which was isolated from the soil sample collected in Fuzhou. The antibiotic was extracted by acetone from the mycelium and purified by column chromatography. The physical and chemical characteristics and UV, IR, NMR and MS spectra showed Fulongmycin is a pentaene antibiotic similar to flavofungin-and Mycoticin but in different ratio of A and B components. The ratio of A and B of Fulongmycin is 1:2, while Flavofungin is 10:1 and Mycoticin is 1:1 respectively. The characteristics of the producing strain B1829 were described.
