Abstract: A comparative costs breakdown of penicillin fermentation with the filamentous and the pelleting strains of Penicllium chrysogenum were given.It was showed that,under the present cost distribution, the cost on basis of penicillin yield in fermentation filtrate of the pellets had only a decrease of 7.4% than that of the filamentous hyphae, although the yield in a batch fermentation broth of the former was 68% higher than that of the latter.
