STUDIES ON THE IN VITRO ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITIES OF HOME-MADE CEFOTAXIME ON THE COMMON BACTERIAL PATHOGENS

Abstract: The in vitro antibacterial activities of home-made cefotaxime were tested against 412 strains isolated in our hospital between 1980-1983, by double dilution method, and compared with the activities of F. R. G. madecefotaxime.The results indicated that cefotaxime has a broad spectrum of antibacterial activitiesagainst common bacterial pathogens, and agreed fairly well with the antibacterial activities of F.R.G. product.Cefotaximeinhi-bited 90% of 279 strains Enterbactericeaeat concentration of 0.5μg/ml which was lower than theMICs of other antibiotics tested simultaneously. MIC50 and MIC90 of P. aeruginosa were 16 and 64 μg/ml respectively.
