Beautiful paired aprons——formation, recombination and disappearance of the paired aprons

Abstract: This paper reviews the skirt’s evolution in the Ancient Chinese History: the skirt which can be tied around first popular in the Han to Tang Dynasties, then the "Xuanqun"(astride overskirt) with the top fly appeared in the Song Dynasties, finally the paired aprons "Mamianqun" was formed in the Ming Dynasty and had become various type in the Qing Dynasty, such as all-around pleated paired aprons, fish scale paired aprons, crisscross paired aprons, moonlight paired aprons and phoenixtail skirt and so on. Through this extensive investigation, the paper abstracts the structure definition and the image pattern of the paired aprons in the Qing Dynasty, and interprets how to freely combine the structural factors such as the top fly, all-around pleats, fish scale pleats, phoenix-tail macramé and so on in the paired aprons from the perspective of structure and color. Further, the article attempts to analyze five design elements of the paired aprons and the historical background about it, and interpret How the changes in the daily life of ancient China had influenced the formation and disappearance of the paired aprons.
