Abstract: Objective To explore the effect of modified Tai Chi on the motor function in patients with stroke. Methods Twenty-two patients with stroke were randomly divided into 2 groups according to the stochastic tables:The control group(n =11)treated with conventional rehabilitation exercise, and treatment group(n =11)treated with conventional rehabilitation exercise plus modified Tai Chi exercise for one month. The Simplified Fugl-Meyer motor function assessment scale(FMA)and the Berg Balance Scale(BBS)were assessed before and after treatment. Results There were significant differences in the scores of FMA and BBS(P <0.05)before and after treatment in two groups. The scores of FMA in treatment group were higher than that in control group(P <0.05).The scores of BBS in treatment group were improved but without statistical difference(P =0.053).Conclusion Modified Tai Chi may improve the motor function and balance function in patients with stroke.
