Monitoring condition of wind turbine components by use of wind turbine health coefficient

Abstract: The supervisory control and data acquisition(SCADA) system contains a lot of important information of the sub-components of a wind turbine. Hence, it can help us to evaluate the health condition of a wind turbine and predict potential faults by using the SCADA data in a scientific way. In this article, a SCADA data preprocessing method was discussed, and a method to calculate the health coefficient of wind turbine based on the principle of the least squares was proposed. Then the health condition monitoring standards of the corresponding equipment were discussed. At the end, the SCADA data before and after fault of two 1.5 MW wind turbines was used to prove the practicability of this method by Matlab. The results clearly show whether there is a fault in the wind turbine and how serious it is.
