Abstract: A novel trough compound parabolic concentrator(CPC) is introduced in this paper. The optical simulation and thermal performance researches are carried out and the principles of its working are presented. At the same time, a 3D computer model of cylindrical absorber is established.The Monte Carlo method is applied to investigate the characteristics of energy flux distribution on the receiver and optical efficiency of the absorber at different incidence angles and installation angle errors. The outdoor thermal efficiency of concentrator device is tested. The results indicate that the overall ray’s receiving rate of 99.36% ~51.51% and optical efficiency of 92.14% ~48.1% are obtained from the incidence angle of 0 ° to 7.5 ° with the mirror reflectance of 0.92, thermal efficiency of the concentrator device is 43.2%.
