Abstract: 116 purebred and crossbred pigs in different combinations were involved in testing finishing traits and 30 of them in testing carcass merit. Shanxi Black(S)Neijang (N)and Berkshire(B)pigs were crossed reeiprocally with Shanxi Local(L) pigs, with purebreds intermated as control groups. All crossbred groups showed statistically significant heterosis in daily gain except ♂×B♀. Among them S♂×L♀, L♂×S♀and B♂×L♀ showed highly statistically significant heterosis(P<0.01). The daily gain for S was greater than that for B and L, but slightly lower than that for N among the purebreds. In comparing sires, S is the best. There was no significant difference between the reciprocal crosses. In carcass merit, the traits which are closely related to lean production such as carcass length and eye muscle area were demonstrated to be of intermedia inheritance, as were the thickness of skin and backfat. The leaf fat and caul fatshowed dominant or overdominant inheritance, but different combinations showed different ways of inheritance.
