THE RELATON BETWEEN ACUPUNCTURE ANAESTHESIA AND THF NEUROTRANSMITTERS AND ENZYMES OF LOCUS COERULEUS AND RAPHE NUCLEUS

Abstract: 192 healthy male,adult rats were divided inte two groups:namely the acupunctured group needled at Zusanli and Huantiao and the control group.After measuring the pain threshold,the animals were sacrificed for histochemical examination of catechol- amine in locus coeruleus and monoamine oxodase and acetylcholinesterase(AChE)in locus coeruleus and raphe nucleus,the quantitative measurement was taken with micro- photometer. The pain threshold was elevated after needling in the mast of animals.No remarkable changes of the amount of catecholamine and monoamine-oxidase in locus coeruleus of the acupunctured rats were observed.The increase of the amounts of AChE both in locus coeruleus and individual cell were very prominent in comparison with that of the control group but the changes of AChE of locus coeruleus were not shown in a small number of rats without changes of its pain threshold after needling.The number of AChE-positive cells of raphe nucleus dorsalis of the acupunctured rats were also incre- ased significantly than that of the control group. The results support our hypothesis that the acupuncture itself may influence upon the the activities of some neurotransmitters and its biological enzymes of some import nuclei in the central nervous system taking part in some of the effect of analgesia and regulation of some functional aspect of the organism.
