Abstract: The mode of formation of the superficial volar arch in the Chinese, based on 400cases, including 200 adults and 200 children, were studied. Four types of superficialvolar arch are described. The first or ulnar arterial type and the second or the radial-ulnar arterial type aremore frequent with 46. 25% and 47. 25% respectively. Type three or median-ulnar ar-terial type is less frequent with 6. 00% and type four or radial-median-ulnar arterialtype is the least frequent one with 0. 57% only. Of the 400 cases arched form occurs in 81. 25% and nonarched form only in18. 75%. The surface projection of the superficial volar arch was studied in 114 cases of thearched forms. It has been found that the ulnar or the main-part of the arch starts fromthe radial side of the pisiform bone and curves radially to about the mid-point of themedian line of the palm, where the summit of the arch is located.
