Abstract: The resistance of 40 varieties to 4 philippine strains of xanthomonas oryzae was evaluated against inoculation methods and time of scoring. In addition, Reaction of adult plant resistance Cultivars to bacterial blight at the seeding stage was observed.Highly significant Correlations were observed between the disease scores produced by pricking and clipping methods in 40 cultivars to 4 bacterial groups(PXO61∶0.863, PXO86∶0.867, PXO79∶0.886, and PXO71∶0.685, all of them are significant at 0.1% level). Some differences between disease scores of Cultivars to 4 bacterial strains make at 2 weeks after inoculation and at 3 weeks after the inoculation by 2 methods were observed. The disease scores of some cultivars increased with the time, the resistance reaction did not change in most cultivars to 4 strains while the reaction of several cultivars was scored as resistance at 2 weeke after inoculation falling in the range of susceptible at 3 weeks after inoculation.36 Cultivars inoculated by 4 bacterial strains may be classified into 4 groups while IR8, IR20, IR1545—339 and DV85 Were used as the check varieties. The resistance of 10 Cultivars of them are not clear. All the varieties of adult plant resistance having the Xa—6 or Xa—4~b Were Susceptible to 4 strains at seedling stage, but the variation in reaction differed from one variety to another to the Same strain, and also from one strain to another on the same variety.
