Abstract: In this paper the correction of measurements of the scanning infra - red earth sen-sor for the earth oblateness is discussed. Based on the property of small flattening coefficient ofthe oblate earth, a first order correction algorithm is presented. Compared with existingmethods in the open literature, the algorithm achieves relatvely high accuracy with simplecomputations. The simulation result shows that its accuracy is better than 0.01°for the lowearth orbit.
