Abstract: We present a new method modeling the intelligent structures based on the similarity between the structure dynamic equations and circuit electric dynamics equations. The fundamental principles regarding transformation between linear mechanical and electric system are introduced. As a special case, the dynamic characteristics of PZT actuator are considered as a electric transfer between real and simulative circuit. Solving dynamic interaction between host structure and actuator draws out the equivalent parameters of PZT and structures in the circuit. We then consider a smart beam with PZT actuator as a numerical example, and all necessary parameters of the simulative circuit are computed. Both electric and mechanical response of the beam and PZT are well predicted. The final results are rigorous convergence with the data obtained by experimental and other computational methods reported earlier. A good tendency to apply this method to the analysis of smart structures under open/close loop control is pointed out in the end of the paper.
