Abstract: Amphibole is one of the most complex rock-forming minerals. Study of the relation of unit cell parameters to chemical composition of amphibole reveals that its unit cell parameters are affected evidently by chemical composition. According to the international classification principle of crystal chemistry of amphibole, the chemical composition of amphiboles provides a basis for crystal-chemical classification of the amphibole. Therefore, we suggest an intrinsic relation between unit cell parameters and crystal-chemical classication of amphiboles. On the basis of unit cell parameters a large number of accurately named amphiboles is collected, and a β-vo diagram is set up for identifying the species of monoclinic amphiboles.
