Abstract: It is shown from available laboratory dam that Dupuit’s assumption for an uncon- fined well is suitable to an imaginary flow net,and equations developed under his as- sumption for the free surface profile and the discharge of such a flow is then valid to the same net.Based on the concept of the imaginary flow net,a generalized discharge equation for either a completely or a partially penetrating well is obtained. On the other hand,in order to omit the placing of the observation well,a discharge equation for the partially penetrating well is derived analytically,provided the drawdown in the well is relatively small.A graph is presented for determing a constant.Results computed by this equation,as compared with those of the current empirical ones and the laboratory tests,give a higher accuracy.
