Work value and motivation mediate the influence of personality on contextual performance

Abstract: The mediating effects of personality dynamic variables(work values and motivation)on the relationship between personality traits and contextual performance are explored by questionnaires to 291 foreign enterprises employees from different industries and areas in China.The results show that:1)Conscientiousness and agreeableness significantly predict contextual performance and its dimensions.2)Competence and growth value partly mediate Big Five traits and contextual performance;Status and independent work values mediate openness,conscientiousness and contextual performance indirectly through the intrinsic motivation.3)Intrinsic motivation partly mediated the work values of competence and growth,status and independence,as well as the contextual performance.
