Abstract: The relationship of sentiments and ethics is a complicated and eternal historical issue. While Confucians and Taoists already had different views on it in Pre-Qin Period, the social unrest and darkness of Wei-Jin Period posed even greater challenges to it.The metaphysical scholars, such as He Yan,Wang Bi,Ji Kang,Ruan Ji,Xiang Xiu and Guo Xiang, living in the turbulent times and being cynical, began to rethink about universe, nature and life and explore the ethics and nature of human beings to restore their ideal society and human personality. With the changes of time, the metaphysical scholars interpreted the relationship of sentiments and ethics differently with their words and deeds respectively.
