Numerical simulation research on icebreaking of rubber particles asphalt pavement based on discrete element method

Abstract: Adopting the pavement icebreaking simulation tester of independent research and development,conducting indoor icebreaking test on the asphalt pavement of different dosage of rubber particles,studied the icebreaking effect on different dosage of rubber particles,and constructed the mesoscopic model of rubber particles asphalt pavement structure of 2 mm ice applying discrete element method,simulated the mesoscopic response of rubber particles asphalt pavement structure under standard axle load. Results show that the BPN weighted average recovery amount under dosage of 3% have increased 11. 45% and 1. 46% than dosage of 2% and 4%,and the BPN weighted average recovery rate increased 11. 22% and 3. 06%; Under the action of vertical load,the contact force distribution of rubber particles asphalt pavement structure is non- uniform,focused primarily below tyre;When rubber particles content was 3%,the maximum contact force of pavement structure before and after the loading is max,respectively 2. 705 × 103 N and 2. 706 × 103 N,strain energy is 1. 34 times 2% dosage and 1. 25 times 4% dosage. In addition,the results of numerical simulation and laboratory test results are consistent,it explains the icebreaking mechanism of rubber particles asphalt surface from the perspective of mesoscopic.
