Abstract: Professor Marjorie Perloff has long been focusing her work on explicating modernist and contemporary poetry with priority to the writing of experimental and avant-garde poets and relating it to the major currents of modernist and post-modernist activity in multiple areas of arts. During her scholarly activity in half a century, Professor Perloff published about 15 books and more than 400 papers. Her poetic criticism basically ranges from the case study of single poets to the corrective reading of contemporary American poets, from avant-garde futurist to an integral poetic mode, from the mutual relationships between poetic art, mass media and some other forms of art to the multi-directions and features of poetic language, from the new trends of American poetry, the identifi cation of critics, and the interior poetic criticism at the critical juncture between the old and new centuries to the correlation between poetry study, poetic criticism and the counteraction of the crisis in the humanities. The integration of fragments and heterogeneity, and of inheritance and creation in modernism and post-modernism is perfectly embodied in Perloff’s poetic criticism.
