Abstract: This paper introduces the principle of three-phase four-wire shunt active power filter(SAPF),and analyzes its compensation characteristics under unbalanced load.Fundamental positive sequence current and negative sequence current can be detected with the harmonic current detection method based on the instantaneous reactive power theory,by which means, the compensated current become balanced with proper control.Averaging filter applied in harmonic detection is more efficient than the traditional low pass filter(LPF).The principle of compensation characteristics under unbalanecd load is discussed.Simulation is implementd by Matlab/Simulink.A 60 kVA three-phase four-wire SAPF is built in the lab to experiment on this research.Simulation and experimental results verify the correctness of the current detection method and the effectiveness of compensation under unbalanced load.
